This eventful day had a thunderous start! The bad weather turned to be a big challenge but nature had to give in to the strong spirits and gifted with the most beautiful day. The Father’s Day event was kicked off by oldest father Major RB Singh. The sweet music & running commentary was persuading everyone.
The red hot grills were packed with the tandoori chicken sending the smoke signals to all ‘its lunch time’. The long queues start forming to enjoy free desi food like curry, chawal chole, Biryani and so much more. The food sponsors as always gave enthusiastic response and kept on pouring all kinds delicious and mouth watering desi dishes. To give it absolute deis touch; there was continuous flow of ‘Ruhafza and Nimboo pani’. Visitors were wondering how come there is no ticket for all of this free fun and food. "I was surprised and amazed to see the Crowd, the arrangements, stalls and the professionalism in organizing the event." mentioned Zia Quereshi.

DESI JUNCTION FEST 2008 1

"Overall it was a very well organized fest, year by year the team is improving, this time the food area was very clean and it was handled very carefully by the food management team. The whole venue was clean thanks to constant cleanup efforts by the team members & guests" noted Rashid Khan one of the volunteers.

The summer festival kept its visitors on toes by including rational games, such as Doughnut, Sack, Lemon Spoon and Balloon Race as well as typical Desi Games, such as Matka, Tire Chalao and Sack Race. But the most noticeable and applauded games were Saas-Bahu Tug Of War, Couples Blind-Shave and Ladies Arm Wrestling. Other favorite of the crowd was interstate tug of war the ‘Punjabi Shers" team defeated "Mumbai Rockers" by 2-0 and clichéd the Title.
The event was perfect. Good weather. good crowd, good games, good entertainment, and of course good food. " Itna bara desi mela pardes me sirf Desi junction hi dikha sakta hi". Said some of the listeners to Shalini Saxena.
"I met with few listeners who were praising so much. According to them it was very well organised and ‘pakka desi’ which we really miss here. Some of my friends enjoyed games very much and food. In his words ‘Dil khol ke khilate hi aap log’ " said Shalini Saxena.
Happy Heer & Dara Sigh noted :- "This year there was a big support from local Punjabi organizations like PHO, PCS, PAO, Punjab Sports Club Punjab Times . "
"It went perfect despite of the weather trying to scare us a little in the morning - the climate was picture perfect for the event - everything flew every well - the reviews I got from few of my friends present there, " the event showed that we had put in a lot of effort and it was organized very well and they never got bored . Every single person who pitched in even a little bit, it mattered and it showed" , said Bhagya Nagesh one of the events coordinator.
The "Desi Junction" Volunteers tirelessly served the chain of festival visitors with a pleasant smile. The charmed visitors went home with memories filled with cheer and fun.
"We at Desi Junction are really proud of our small step to steer the humanity in the right direction" said Charandeep, who was in charge of food Department.
Desi Junction presented another unique and first of kind technical wonder. This whole day’s event was seen around the globe via internet that included the funniest moment: the half shaved, foam cover faces of young males after getting shaved by their lovely and blind folded wives. The improvised desi version of ‘treasure hunt’ gave a common mission to the families to play this game with hands in hands. The whole event was broadcasted live around the globe via internet by www.wemeetlive.com. With a promise to come back again next year, a fully content and affable visitors returned home with sweet memories and with few new friends.
"The Summer Festival 2008, has set standards of outdoor entertainment to a point yet to be achieved by any other South Asian Organization.
